How to Sign a PDF on Mac

Preview can add a quick signature to a PDF, but it doesn't fill out checkboxes or text fields, and it only lives on this one Mac. Here's a way that does both, and picks up the same form on your phone if you need to.

Four steps

Sign a PDF on Mac

  1. 1Open pdkef.com/sign in Safari or Chrome.
  2. 2Drag the PDF in from Finder or your Downloads folder.
  3. 3Fill in the form and add your signature, drawn with the trackpad, typed, or uploaded from a saved image.
  4. 4Click Sign and Download. The finished PDF saves straight to Downloads.
Why not just use Preview

Preview is fine for a quick signature, not a whole form

Preview's built-in signature tool works well when all you need is your name on a page. It's less suited to a multi-page form with checkboxes and text fields, and it's tied to this one Mac, so if you need to finish the same form on your phone later, you're starting over. PDkef handles both in one pass and works the same on any device.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Preview or Adobe Acrobat to sign a PDF on Mac?

No. This runs entirely in Safari or Chrome, so there's nothing else to open.

Can I draw my signature with the trackpad?

Yes, or you can type it in a handwriting-style font, or upload a photo of your signature. Whichever is easiest.

Does this work in Safari, or only Chrome?

Both. Use whichever browser you already have your PDF open in.
