How it works

How to split PDF files online for free

Extract pages or split a PDF file into separate documents, right in your browser. No upload, no server. Your files never leave your device.

  1. Upload your PDF. Select the PDF file you want to split or drag-and-drop it into the tool.
  2. Choose split mode. Extract your pages into a single combined PDF, or split each page into a separate PDF.
  3. Select pages. Click the page thumbnails or type page numbers and ranges (e.g., 1-3, 5, 8-).
  4. Split and download. Click the Split PDF button and download your generated files instantly.

Free for everyone

Extract pages or split a PDF into separate files as often as you like, with no watermark or page caps. Because it runs on your device, there's nothing to upload and no usage to ration.

It's open source under the MIT license, so anyone can read the code, fork it on GitHub, or share it. Simple PDF tools should be free for everyone.

Got questions?

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF split tool completely free to use?

Yes. Like all tools on PDkef, the Split PDF tool is completely free with no limits, no signup required, and no watermarks added.

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

No. PDkef runs 100% on your device (client-side). Your files are processed locally in your browser and are never uploaded to any server, guaranteeing total privacy.

How do page ranges work?

You can enter specific pages separated by commas (e.g., 1, 3, 5), closed ranges (e.g., 2-4), or open-ended ranges like "5-" (from page 5 to the end of the document).

What is the difference between Combined and Separate mode?

Combined mode takes all selected pages and merges them into a single output PDF document. Separate mode extracts each selected page as its own individual PDF file.

Is there a limit on file size or number of pages?

There is no artificial limit. The tool can handle any file size and page count, constrained only by your device's system memory.

Can I pull a single chapter or receipt out of a large PDF?

Yes. Type the page range for just the chapter, invoice, or receipt you need, and Split extracts exactly those pages into their own file.
