Reduce the file size of a JPG or PNG, right in your browser. No upload, no server. If your photo is already under the target, it comes back unchanged. Otherwise the output is a JPEG: a transparent PNG background is filled in white, and re-encoding drops EXIF metadata, including location. If a tiny target can't be hit without making a large photo unreadable, the tool says so and hands you the smallest result it found instead of quietly returning something too big.

Yes. Enter 100 KB as the target, or use the shortcut, and compress. The tool tries to get at or below the limit, not exactly 100KB. A large, detailed photo may not fit that small; check the actual output size before uploading it to a portal.
If the image is already under the target, it is kept unchanged. Otherwise, the tool searches image scale and JPEG quality settings until it gets at or below your target, within a time limit. If it cannot reach the target, it returns the smallest result found and tells you the target was missed. Everything happens in your browser.
A JPEG, whatever format you started with, whenever the tool had to compress it. If your original was a PNG with a transparent background, that transparency is filled in white first, since a JPEG has no transparency of its own. A file that is already under the target comes back exactly as it was, PNG included.
It can. JPEG compression is built for photos, and a small target size can leave visible artefacts around sharp edges like text or fine lines, more so on a screenshot or scanned document than on an ordinary photo. If the result looks too rough to read, try a larger target.
Yes. Re-encoding to JPEG drops EXIF metadata, including the location a phone camera often records, along with the camera model and timestamp. That is a side effect of redrawing the pixels rather than a deliberate scrub, so do not rely on it as one, but the compressed copy carries none of it. If you need to keep that metadata, do not run the photo through this tool.
Yes, exactly that. Many application portals cap a photo at 20 to 50KB and a document at 100 to 200KB, checked separately, so one "under 100KB" result does not necessarily clear the photo limit. Set your own target here, including one below 100KB, to match whatever the portal actually asks for.
